ask the bean: my favorite brands

ask the bean: my favorite brands

Is this worse than picking a favorite kid?

If you’re new to the lil beauty bean, then welcome! Last month I proposed a new series where followers ask questions in the comments, and I’ll dedicate a post to their question. In addition to answering, I offered to give a review of their blog.

Today, I’m here to answer My Lil Slice of Life‘s question:

What makeup brands do you like best?

To start, my makeup collection is primarily drugstore, as I am a college bound high school senior with a very limited bank account. However, I do splurge every now and then on high-end products. I have for you my favorite drug store brand and favorite high end brand!

Maybelline

I use so many Maybelline products everyday, such as their Fit Me! concealers and foundations, but I also love their mascaras and Master Fix setting spray. Before I discovered Kat Von D’s Tattoo Eyeliner, my go-to eyeliner was from Maybelline, as well! I believe it was Master Precise… Alas, my memory fails me.

Tarte

Almost by default, I have to choose this as my favorite brand since I have owned or tried the most products from them. Don’t get me wrong, these are great products. Everything I’ve tried I would purchase for my own (Shape Tape concealer!!) or repurchase. My favorite part of this brand is their use of Amazonian clay. I have the Tarteist in Bloom palette and have tried one of their bronzers with the clay. Man, it’s blendable but still manages to stay put. Also, it kind of smells like chocolate. 🙂

Moving on to the other half of an Ask the Bean post-  review of My Lil Slice of Life.

I am very picky when it comes to who I follow because I don’t want the time I spend on here to be wasted with empty, grammatically incorrect gibberish (not throwin’ shade I promise). I want quality blogs and content, but most importantly I want to read content from a genuine person. My Lil Slice of Life checks these boxes. Her posts are entertaining and useful, and her personality shines through each post.

If you have stumbled across this post through Reader, you’re probably here for the makeup tag. My Lil Slice of Life does have makeup posts, but also about movies and books. Her blog is truly a slice of her life. My favorite post of hers has been her post inspired by “Cool Kids” by Echosmith.

Go check her out!

Don’t forget to ask a question in the comments to have a post of your own.

5 high-end makeup products i want to try

We can’t always get what we want.

As hard as I pray, I will never have my own personal Sephora in my bathroom cabinet. (But come on, who doesn’t want that?!) Here’s a list of products I would love to try, and would cherish if I had them:

1. Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow Palette

My skin tone is perfect for this palette! I’m usually not a fan of glowy blushes and bronzes during winter, but I am determined to have this palette this spring and summer! And come on, have you smelled it? It’s not a fake, candy-like scent. It smells like an actual peach. All of Too Faced’s powders work great, so I’m sure the quality of this product is nothing shy of the usual.

2. Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

The amount of beauty vlogglers of seen swear by this stuff is more than enough to have me convinced I need this concealer. I have genetically extra dark circles, so a full coverage concealer is right up my alley. My swatches of this product from Ulta (no pictures, sorry) make me believe this is an air-light fully pigmented acryilic paint. The pigment is unbelievable. I can only speak for lighter shades since I had no reason to swatch anything darker than “light sand”, so if you think the darker shades’ formulas affect the pigmentation, please comment so I can place that information [here].

3. Marc Jacobs Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator

No, this is not a stick of deodorant. It’s a subtle, natural highlighting stick. This product is probably considered luxury since it’s $42, and I’m sure there are less expensive highlights that work just as well… But I love this one. The last three times I’ve visited Sephora, I walk by and gawk at the swatch. Siiiigh. So pretty. So blendable.

4. Jeffree Star Lip Ammunition

Jeffree Star. What a character! I love his YouTube channel, background, and style. I want to try all of his products on his site… However, I cannot apply a bold liquid lip for the life of me. I do not have perfect lips as pictured above, and I don’t plan on having any work done to make them so. When he announced his Lip Ammunition, a classic lipstick tube, I was so excited! And when he announced the lipstick version of Unicorn Blood (pictured), I was even more over the moon. This color is a perfect deep red, and I must try it.

5. Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

I’m a firm believer in drugstore dupes, and never understood why someone would pay more than $10 for mascara when the drugstore has such good options. I’ve never had a consistent type of mascara because I always think they could be better. So many blog posts that I’ve read since starting The Lil Beauty Bean listed Roller Lash as a Holy Grail product. I had a bad experience with Benefit’s They’re Real! Mascara, so I want to try this product to see what the hype is about. Maybe it’ll be a magical experience, who knows? (I’m convinced it’ll be magical. And the packing is so cute!)
